While those of you’ve who’ve tried Emsculpt have fallen in love with your results, you may have also heard of an alternative to Emsculpt that’s on the market. It’s called CoolTone and its brought to us by Allergan, the same geniuses behind CoolSculpting. We are super excited to now also be able to offer CoolTone to our clients. But what’s the difference? Both CoolTone and Emsculpt use technology that induces deep involuntary muscle contractions. Both treatments take about 30 minutes. Both treatments are painless and comfortable, although the sensation of your muscles contracting involuntarily may feel a little strange at first. And both treatments deliver deep remodeling, toning, and sculpting of muscle tissue with results often being felt within a day or two but continuing to develop over the following weeks.
The technology Emsculpt uses is called high-intensity focused electromagnetic pulses or HIFEM. It affects skeletal muscle as opposed to smooth muscle. In one study, HIFEM increased muscle density by 16% and caused a release of epinephrine which breaks down fat so fat was also reduced by 19%.
CoolTone calls its technology Magnetic Muscle Stimulation or MMS. The applicator generates a magnetic field that creates an electrical current when it passes through a conductor. Muscle tissue, unlike fat or skin, is a good magnetic conductor so when MMS is applied to the area being treated the electrical current created induces powerful muscular contractions.
So Which One Should I Choose?
Ultimately, the choice will be up to you. Both treatments are great options that deliver very similar results. CoolTone claims their magnetic field is up to 50% more powerful which may be beneficial in some situations. If you need help deciding, call us for a consultation so we can discuss what your specific goals are as well as any other concerns or questions you may have.
