How to Maximize Moisture in your Skin
Our skin acts as our natural barrier against all possible external factors out there and everyday, it is readily exposed to almost anything harmful and dangerous. While our skin may seem like it is at the mercy of these unwanted factors, our skin remains protected with its own natural defenses. One of these defenses is when our skin is hydrated. However, the water in our skin is limited and must be replenished every now and then. To replenish it, the skin must be moisturized.
Moisturizing our skin is one of the best ways of hydrating our skin and providing it with nutrients necessary. Without moisturizing our skin, we open the door to further damage and different kinds of skin conditions. Our skin begins to lose its elasticity and becomes rough, producing an unpleasant look and feeling. Our skin is also prevented from becoming healthy as it continues to sustain internal damage. And so, to help our skin prevent these from happening, here’s what you should do to maximize moisturize on your skin.
Cleanse First
It is important to first cleanse your skin before you moisturize it with different skin care products. This is because cleansing removes any dead skin cell, oil, dirt, sweat and debris from the surface of your skin. So it is only natural that you remove these first before applying your moisturizer. This will ensure that your skin will get the most out of the skin care products. While there are many different ways of cleansing your skin, it is recommended to use plain water and gentle and fragrance-free cleansers.
Shower Short
Showering can be therapeutic, relaxing and pleasant. However, properly moisturizing your skin means shortening your shower time. The recommended duration for taking a bath is only 5 to 10 minutes. This is because the longer you shower, the more you strip your skin’s moisture away.
Soap Limit
Speaking of bath time, soap should also be minimized as well, especially if you are using soaps that are strong and fragrant. Using these kinds of soap can be more harmful than beneficial since soaps contain chemicals that can strip away moisture. Additionally, it would be also beneficial to avoid using alcohol products, perfume products and fabric softeners.
Gentle Touch
Another good tip when it comes to moisturizing your skin is gently cleaning your skin whenever you shower, use mild soaps and skin products. It is crucial that you avoid scrubbing your skin or using sponges as these may remove moisture from your skin.
Protect After
Additionally, you also need to protect your skin from the same external factors you will be exposed to. Usually, protection means applying sunscreens that are SPF 30 or higher. But of course, there are other products that can be used. If it happens that you cannot apply any products, just make sure that you are wearing clothes and accessories that can cover and protect your skin.
